Ali Hasanov: â€œIf an attempt is made to hold an unsanctioned rally again, it will be prevented, its organizers will be held accountable againâ€

Baku. Parvin Abbasov â€“ APA. â€œThe oppositionâ€™s April 2 action was an unauthorized, illegal attempt. They intended to create disorder in the center of the city and to violate public order and right of the people to rest. The rally was accompanied by the plundering of the citizensâ€™ property, damages on cars and shops. Therefore policeâ€™s decision on this action has no alternative. Police had to prevent the illegal action at first and fulfilled its duty professionally, within the lawâ€, Chief of the Public Policy Department of the Presidential Administration of Azerbaijan Ali Hasanov said in his interview to APA.

â€œThose, who attempted to create disorder, were brought to the administrative and other responsibilities. It will be so in the future. If someone thinks that can make police to lose will of fulfilling its duties, it is absolutely not soâ€, said Hasanov. .

Commenting on the OSCE and US embassyâ€™s statements concerning the April 2 action, Hasanov said their concerns are baseless. â€œAzerbaijani police fulfilled its duty. All measures taken by police concerning the April 2 action were within the law. This is prevention of the attempts of a group of people in Azerbaijan to violate public order. It is so in other countries, including US and other OSCE member countriesâ€.

Touching on the next rally scheduled by the Public Chamber for April 16 department chief said if an attempt is made to hold an unsanctioned rally again, it will be prevented, its organizers will be held accountable again.

Asked whether there is a need for authorities-opposition dialogue in Azerbaijan in the present situation, Ali Hasanov said in most civilized countries dialogue is held between the authorities and opposition.
â€œThis is so in Azerbaijan, too. We are ruling the country in the atmosphere of dialogue with normal opposition parties, Azerbaijani socio-political institutions and we take into consideration their progressive, more attractive proposals concerning state-citizen relations, state management. But with the forces attempting to create disorder in the country, confuse all steps of the government, violate public order we must speak in their language.â€

Hasanov said political parties represented in the parliament addressed Azerbaijani President requesting to sign a document about funding of the political parties from the state budget and their letter is being considered.

The department chief also expressed his reaction to the incident in Jalilabad region - action held with the political slogans after the murder of schoolboy by his schoolfellow â€“ son of head of APFP Jalilabad region branch. â€œI would not like to politicize this issue. Law-enforcement bodies conduct investigation at the site, all details of the incident are being investigated, appropriate assessment will be given and the offenders will be punishedâ€.
