New-York. Isabel Levine – APA. The Azerbaijani Diaspora in the US is standing against Internet censorship in the United States, and protesting the so-called “Stop Online Piracy Act” (SOPA) and “Protect IP” Act, APA was told by the Diaspora Members. Some Diaspora representatives have sent to the Washington’s elected officials to protest “these two horrid pieces of legislation which would have the effect of killing the internet”.

The campaign was organized by US Azeri Network. The Diaspora believes that both bills would allow corporations and the government to control Americans’ ability to access information online and is a clear violation of individual rights.

“We’re doing this because the Senate is poised to vote on a bill that would end the Internet as we know it”, note the authors, adding, if passes, the "Protect IP Act" (and its companion bill in the House, "SOPA") could put people in jail for things like uploading a video to YouTube or sharing on Facebook, and would severely limit our right to free speech.
