Azerbaijan takes quite successful steps in renewable energy field, MP said

“The countries of the world consider the quick transition to alternative energy sources as a priority. The only increase among the energy sources in 2020 was recorded in the renewable energy types. Although the energy demand has decreased by 5% because of the pandemic, the production of renewable energy sources has increased by 7%,” said Soltan Mammadov, the MP of Milli Majlis (Azerbaijani Parliament) as an answer to the question of “Which countries and regions can be considered “lucky” in connection with the production of “green energy” and renewable energy?” in his interview with APA.

Azerbaijani MP noted that China takes first place in the world for the development of alternative energy sources and in the last decade, it has attained to increase its capacity for renewable energy to a considerable extent: “Today, China takes the first place for the production of the electrical energy from renewable energy sources. It is expected that China will get 80% of the energy that it has produced from alternative sources by 2060. The U.S. and the European countries are making serious efforts in this direction. According to the energy strategy of the European Union, it is aimed that the share of renewable energy resources will increase. Germany is applying the most advanced technologies in the development and application of renewable energy sources. For sure, it is possible to mention the other countries. I consider that Azerbaijan also has taken quite successful steps in this field. It is planned to install 8 renewable energy production stations by 2027. Last year Garadagh Solar Power Plant started operation. For the next years, it is expected that the other stations to start operation. This process has a continuous nature. The government of Azerbaijan has signed the Memorandum of Understanding regarding cooperation in the field of green energy with the governments and companies of Australia, China, Japan, Indonesia, UAE, Uzbekistan, Georgia, Romania, Hungary and other countries.”
