A panel discussion on "Museums and Heritage Sites as Spaces for Intercultural Dialogue" was held as part of the 7th World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue, APA reports.

During her speech, Nicole Dowd, Deputy Director for Public Programs at the National Museum of Asian Art, stated that discussions about art and large-scale cultural festivals create important opportunities to bring new voices into the museum community and enable visitors to establish more meaningful connections with Asian art.

Amina Malikova, Director of the Azerbaijan National Carpet Museum, emphasized that national museums reflect not only history but also the philosophy of peoples and the wisdom developed over centuries. According to her, museums serve as important sources for gaining a deeper understanding of the culture of any country and its people.

She noted that traditional art is an integral part of cultural heritage and that traditions also evolve over time as lifestyles change.

Amina Malikova also stated that Azerbaijani carpets have spread to various countries around the world over the centuries and remain among the important examples of cultural heritage displayed at international auctions today.

Nasir A. Darmaki, Vice President of the International Council of Museums (ICOM), emphasized the importance of cooperation with communities, academic circles, and cultural institutions such as the British Museum, the Smithsonian Institution, and the Azerbaijan National Carpet Museum.

He stated that such cooperation is of great importance for establishing direct connections with communities, benefiting from the extensive experience of museums, and contributing to academia.

According to Nasir A. Darmaki, museums based on intercultural dialogue should invite people to make their contributions and encourage visitors to ask questions about the stories and approaches presented in museums.

The panel discussion continued with an exchange of views on the topic.
