The growing number of armed conflicts worldwide is increasing the care burden on women and girls, UN Programme Director Azza Karam said during her speech at the plenary session titled "Knowledge, Voice and Leadership: Empowering Women and Girls Across Cultures for a Shared Future" at the 7th World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue held in Baku, APA reports.
She stated that the number of armed conflicts worldwide has currently reached the highest level ever recorded. This situation is leading to an increase in the number of internally displaced persons, the difficulties faced by women and girls, as well as the care burden placed on them.
The UN Programme Director emphasized the importance of more effectively coordinating existing policy and legislative mechanisms to empower women and girls and strengthening cooperation between government institutions and partners.
