Achieving climate targets will be one of the main priorities of the Azerbaijani government in the medium and long term, Adviser to the Minister of Economy Huseyn Huseynov told journalists, APA-Economics reports.
He emphasized that today's ninth SDG Dialogue is related to the low-carbon development strategy, which is planned to be prepared in accordance with a decision of the Cabinet of Ministers.
"This strategy will serve to reduce carbon emissions. The strategy envisages achieving the net-zero emissions target by 2060.
Naturally, increasing access to financial resources is of great importance for achieving the targets of the low-carbon development strategy. In this regard, one of the main tasks will be to identify and mobilize financial resources together with various stakeholders, as well as implement measures aimed at achieving carbon emission reduction targets," he noted.
"Today's discussions were held with the participation of representatives of the public sector, the private sector, international organizations, academic circles, and non-governmental organizations, specifically with the aim of achieving net-zero emissions.
The main topic and central element of the discussions was the implementation of measures aimed at achieving decarbonization in the energy sector. Within this framework, a roadmap jointly developed with the Ministry of Energy and the UN Economic Commission for Asia was discussed. At the same time, representatives of companies operating in Azerbaijan and continuing their activities in the alternative energy sector expressed various views," Huseyn Huseynov noted.
