Economic growth continues in Azerbaijan. In 2021–2025, the non-oil sector grew 1.5 times, while electricity exports doubled, Deputy Minister of Economy Samad Bashirli said during his speech at the 9th Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Dialogue, APA-Economics reports.
According to him, this is taking place amid growing demand for energy:
"Azerbaijan has launched mega-regional projects. These are the Caspian–Black Sea–Europe and Central Asia–Azerbaijan green energy corridors. Major projects are being implemented in renewable energy, which constitutes one of the main pillars of the Sustainable Development Goals. Investments attracted to our country in recent years and agreements signed on production cover projects with a capacity of 8 gigawatts."
The Deputy Minister also spoke about renewable energy projects being implemented in Karabakh:
"Of course, the energy transition in Karabakh should also be particularly emphasized. Within the framework of the Great Return program, renewable energy projects are being implemented in settlements established in cities, towns, and villages in the liberated territories of the Republic of Azerbaijan – in Karabakh, East Zangezur, including Aghdam.
The liberated territories have also been declared a green energy zone. Hydropower plants involving not only foreign investment but also the public sector are operating in these territories. I would also like to particularly highlight the Shafag solar power plant, located in the Jabrayil district, with a generation capacity of 240 megawatts.
This approach aimed at regional development is also being consistently implemented in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic. The Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic is also among the areas where projects related to the use of renewable energy sources are particularly supported as a green energy zone."
