Russia's Federal Service for Supervision of Communications, Information Technology and Mass Media (Roskomnadzor) has placed Apple and Microsoft under regulatory supervision, APA's Moscow bureau reports.
Apple and Microsoft have been included in Russia's register of organizers of information dissemination.
The entries list the domains apple.com and microsoft.com.
Apple is listed as a software developer and provider, while Microsoft is described as an ecosystem of software, hardware, and cloud services.
Note that inclusion in the register obliges companies to store information about the receipt, transmission, and processing of messages, as well as user data, in Russia. From January 1, 2026, the retention period for such information was increased from one year to three years. Text messages, audio and video calls must be stored for six months, and the data must be provided to government agencies when necessary.
