"Young people should be a generation of peace, not war," Miguel Ángel Moratinos, United Nations Under-Secretary-General and High Representative for the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC), said at the event titled "Youth Dialogue: Bringing Impact to the Forefront," held as part of the 7th World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue in Baku, APA reports.
Moratinos called on young people to become a generation that ends wars and builds peace:
"War cannot be justified, and young people must play an important role in ensuring peace. You must be a generation of peace, and there is no excuse for this. War cannot be justified; there is no basis for it. There is no art in war. Destruction, darkness, and suffering are manifestations of nihilism. Peace, on the other hand, creates peace of mind, inner harmony, solidarity, empathy, and good neighborly relations. Therefore, your generation should be a generation of peace, not war."
He also noted that young people hold an important place in the activities of the United Nations:
"Young people are not only a symbol of the peace we so desperately need. You are the leaders of today and tomorrow. I would even say that you are not the future, but the present.
Today, in an extremely polarized, divided, and uncertain world, we see how important a role young people play. You are concerned about your future and what future generations will inherit from us. It is you who must prepare to take responsibility and truly open a new chapter in the history of humanity."
