“The change in the level of the Caspian Sea is an environmental challenge on a global scale,” Baku Port Director General Eldar Salahov told journalists, APA-Economics reports.

“This is an issue facing all Caspian littoral countries. I should note that currently, no technical problems related to the decline in the Caspian Sea level are observed at the port. However, as Baku Port, we are already taking the necessary measures to implement preventive actions,” Eldar Salahov noted.

According to him, an international tender for seabed dredging was announced during the summer months. The results of the tender are already being evaluated, and the terms of the final contract are expected to be agreed upon in the coming days: “I think that by the end of 2026, we will physically begin seabed dredging activities in the Caspian Sea together with international partners.”

He added that the process is expected to last approximately one and a half years. All technical preparatory work, seabed studies and bathymetric surveys related to this have been carried out by the port.

“This is a preventive measure, and currently no restrictions related to technical operations or the reception of vessels at the port are observed due to changes in the sea level,” Eldar Salahov emphasized.
