Yerevan de-jure remains a full-fledged member of the CSTO, Maria Zakharova, the official spokesperson for the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said during a briefing at the Vladivostok Economic Forum while responding to Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's announcement about suspending Armenia's activities within the CSTO, APA's Moscow correspondent reports.
"I regularly read official statements from Yerevan, including those related to the CSTO. Some time ago, they had stated that the CSTO had left Armenian territory, and later they began to say that they had suspended their activities within the organization. Every word, and every phrase must have meaning. This is extremely important. If something is said by an official, then there must be responsibility as well. Not only for what is said but also for the consequences. I repeat once again, Yerevan de jure remains a full-fledged member of the CSTO, and retains the relevant rights and obligations. In fact, the Armenian leadership supports a line of withdrawal from cooperation. In our view, this is against the interests of the Armenian people. Russia hopes that the partnership within the CSTO with Armenia will be fully restored. Because this serves both Armenia's and the region's interests," emphasized the Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson.
