Russia does not take sides in the normalization of Armenia-Azerbaijan relations, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said at a joint press conference following talks with his Armenian counterpart Ararat Mirzoyan, APA's Moscow correspondent reports.
"We are dealing with very urgent issues, the normalization of Yerevan-Baku relations. We are deeply interested in our brotherly peoples living in peace and good-neighborly relations. We have strategic partnerships and alliance relations with both Azerbaijan and Armenia. Unlike countries located far from the South Caucasus, we are personally interested in this. Those countries push forward agendas to keep the tension in the region for a longer period, hoping that within this tension, they can promote their own geopolitical interests more intensively. Russia acts based on agreements reached with the consent of both Yerevan and Baku. These include the peace treaty, the opening of economic and transport communications in the region, the issues of border delimitation and demarcation. We are involved at the level required by Yerevan and Baku, no more, no less,” emphasized the Russian Foreign Minister.
