Baku-APA. The Jordanian airline Royal Jordanian (RJ) on Friday cancelled six flights and delayed five others as heavy snow blocked the main highway leading to the Queen Alia International Airport in the capital city of Amman, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

The RJ cancelled and delayed flights as passengers and crew members were unable to reach the airport as heavy snow blocked the main road connecting different parts of the country to the airport, said Basel Kilani in a statement, who is executive assistant to the Director General of Royal Jordanian for Media and Communication.

The RJ cancelled flights to Jeddah, Beirut, Erbil, Sulimaniyeh, Cairo and Tel Aviv, and cancelled flights to several Arab states.

Residents living near the airport road said thousands of cars at the highway leading to the airport were stranded because of the heavy snow.

The main roads and sub-roads in Amman are completely blocked by snow, police said in a statement issued late Friday, adding that authorities were working around the clock to reopen the roads.
