Ceuta reports on the situation in the city area

Calm is gradually returning to the area around the autonomous city of Ceuta on Africa's Mediterranean coast, which has become the epicenter of the migrant crisis over the past two days, local authorities reported, APA reports.

"Intensive efforts are underway to clear the area of debris, and order and traffic are being restored," a source at the Bab Sebta border crossing leading to Ceuta told the Hespress news portal. The wrecks of vehicles burned by migrants during recent clashes with police that occurred overnight between Thursday and Friday are being removed from the surrounding streets. Minibuses have begun arriving at the border crossing to transport illegal migrants leaving Ceuta to the nearby Moroccan town of Fnideq. Normal traffic has resumed in both directions on the section of highway between Ceuta and Fnideq.

At the same time, Hespress points out that reinforced police units remain both at the border crossing itself and in the surrounding areas, monitoring the process of returning people who had previously entered the autonomous city to Moroccan territory.
