Azerbaijani prisoner of conscience’s health deteriorates

Baku. Ramil Mammadli-APA. One of the activists of movement for the Azerbaijanis’ rights in Iran, Sa’id Metinpour’s health deteriorated in prison, caused by tortures he had faced there.

Sources in Iran told APA that Sa’id Metinpour is having serious chest pains in Evin prison, Tehran. However he does not get treated normally. He was not allowed to meet his wife Atiyye Tahiri.

Sa’id Metinpour, journalist and human rights activist was imprisoned for 8 years by the verdict of Revolutionary court. He was accused of spying and struggling against the government.

Sa’id Metinpour was arrested after 2006 May events and International Mother Language Day, subjected to torture and ill-treatment and is suffering from poor health as a result. He also spent much of his time in detention in solitary confinement in an attempt to force him into making a videotaped confession.

He was released on bail of 5 billion Rials ($500,000) after nearly a year of detention in solitary confinement.

Amnesty International declared Sa’id Metinpour as prisoner of conscience.
