Azerbaijani prisoner of conscienceâ€™s health deteriorates

Baku. Ramil Mammadli-APA. One of the activists of movement for the Azerbaijanisâ€™ rights in Iran, Saâ€™id Metinpourâ€™s health deteriorated in prison, caused by tortures he had faced there.

Sources in Iran told APA that Saâ€™id Metinpour is having serious chest pains in Evin prison, Tehran. However he does not get treated normally. He was not allowed to meet his wife Atiyye Tahiri.

Saâ€™id Metinpour, journalist and human rights activist was imprisoned for 8 years by the verdict of Revolutionary court. He was accused of spying and struggling against the government.

Saâ€™id Metinpour was arrested after 2006 May events and International Mother Language Day, subjected to torture and ill-treatment and is suffering from poor health as a result. He also spent much of his time in detention in solitary confinement in an attempt to force him into making a videotaped confession.

He was released on bail of 5 billion Rials ($500,000) after nearly a year of detention in solitary confinement.

Amnesty International declared Saâ€™id Metinpour as prisoner of conscience.
