The Washington administration estimates that a partial shutdown of the US government could potentially cause a loss of about $15 billion per week in Gross Domestic Product (GDP), APA reports citing Politico.

US President Donald Trump's economic advisers are reportedly warning that a prolonged shutdown could have serious economic consequences.

According to their calculations, the US could lose $15 billion in GDP each week while the shutdown continues; if it continues for a month, the number of unemployed people would increase by 43,000.

It is noted that these calculations do not include the approximately 1.9 million federal employees who will be furloughed or work without pay.

According to estimates, if the shutdown continues for a month, consumer spending in the United States will decrease by $30 billion.

It should be noted that the US federal government partially shut down on October 1 due to a lack of funding.
