A new ombudsman will be elected in Azerbaijan, APA reports.
The issue of "Election of the Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of the Republic of Azerbaijan" has been included in the agenda of tomorrow's meeting of the Human Rights Committee of the Milli Majlis (Azerbaijani Parliament).
Note that, according to the Law of the Republic of Azerbaijan "On the Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of the Republic of Azerbaijan," the Commissioner is elected for a term of 7 years. Thirty days before the expiration of the Commissioner's term of office, the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan submits three candidates to the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan for the election of a new Commissioner. The Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan adopts the relevant decision on the election of the Commissioner within 15 days. The same person cannot be elected to the position of Commissioner more than twice.
Sabina Aliyeva was elected Ombudsman by the Milli Majlis on November 29, 2019, from among three candidates nominated by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
