A fire at a laboratory at the Savannah River Site (SRS) nuclear complex in the US state of South Carolina has caused a radiation leak and prompted the declaration of an emergency at the facility, APA reports, citing local broadcaster News 12.
According to the broadcaster, the incident occurred on Wednesday evening. The facility's management said a fire broke out in one of the laboratory rooms, resulting in an unfiltered radiation release at ground level.
At the same time, the facility's management stated that no radioactive contamination had been detected outside the damaged laboratory building or in other areas within the boundaries of the nuclear complex.
