In January–September this year, purchases of cash foreign currency from customers by exchange offices in Azerbaijan exceeded sales by $759 million, APA-Economics reports.
This was stated in an announcement by the Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA).
In January–August, this difference amounted to $673 million. Thus, based on the announced figures, cash foreign currency purchases exceeded sales by $86 million in September.
The CBA stated that supply significantly exceeded demand in the foreign exchange market and that it carried out foreign currency purchases under these conditions.
In nine months of this year, the Central Bank's foreign exchange reserves increased by 33.4%, reaching $15.4 billion.
