The pre-trial detention measure imposed on Dito Chubinidze, a journalist for the Asaval-Dasavali newspaper who was arrested in Georgia on charges of treason and sabotage, has been changed, APA's local bureau reports.

By a decision of the Court of Appeal, he was released on bail of 4,000 lari ($1,540).

The decision does not mean that criminal proceedings against Dito Chubinidze have been terminated. He will be able to participate in court proceedings while remaining at liberty.

It should be noted that Dito Chubinidze was detained on October 22, and the following day, Tbilisi City Court ordered his pre-trial detention for two months.

According to the investigation, since February 2026, Dito Chubinidze has systematically spread false information and disinformation through various media outlets and social platforms, claiming, based on fabricated facts, that the Georgian Prime Minister had allegedly handed over part of the Keshikchidagh (David Gareji) monastery complex to the Republic of Azerbaijan through a secret agreement with the neighboring country.

If found guilty, he faces up to four years in prison.
