U.S. President Donald Trump has praised Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, saying she is ready to help in the war between the United States, Israel and Iran, APA reports, citing the Corriere della Sera newspaper.
Trump gave a phone interview to the newspaper on Saturday, describing Meloni as a “great leader” and noting that Italy is doing everything it can to provide assistance.
“Meloni always tries to help. She is an excellent leader and a friend of mine,” Trump was quoted as saying by the newspaper.
Meloni, for her part, said on Thursday that amid Iran’s air strikes Italy plans to send air defense assistance to Gulf countries.
In addition, an Italian military ship is preparing to head to Cyprus to strengthen the island’s defense as part of a joint European mission.
