Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney discussed with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and European Parliament President Roberta Metsola issues related to deepening cooperation in defense, energy, and mining, according to a statement following their meeting, published on Carney's website, APA reports.
The meeting took place in Strasbourg. Carney, von der Leyen, and Metsola "discussed efforts to deepen the partnership between Canada and the European Union in key areas, including critical minerals, energy, defense, research and development, and advanced technologies," the statement said.
The document emphasizes that Canada seeks to "strengthen relationships with trusted partners to ensure greater strategic autonomy, resilience, and sovereignty." Carney believes the EU plays a "key role in these efforts."
