AU chief: Putin showed readiness to hold talks on Ukraine

African Union Chairman Azali Assoumani told reporters at the Russia-Africa Summit on Friday that Russian President Vladimir Putin has shown readiness to partake in the dialogue on Ukraine "and find a solution," APA reports citing Teletrader.

He added that all that is left now, is to persuade Kyiv to join the discussions as well.

Talking about the grain situation, Assoumani stated that although Moscow showed a willingness to work with the African countries on the supply of grain, "this may not be quite enough." He underlined that a ceasefire in Ukraine must also be reached.

Meanwhile, Putin said that Russia is "sincerely striving to build truly strategic multifaceted relations with Africa," adding that he appreciates the latter's demonstration of wanting to develop further cooperation with Moscow.
