Informing about the draft law, the committee chairman Ali Huseynli said that according to the proposed amendments, punishments are imposed for personal insult and slander in media outlets or public information internet resources.
Under the Criminal Code’s articles 147 (slander) and 148 (insult), the punishments will be imposed in accordance with information released on internet resources. Fines from AZN 100 up to AZN 500 and public works up to 240 hours, corrective work up to a year or 6 months imprisonment are designated for slander. Severe cases envisage public works up to 2 years and 3 years imprisonment. Fines from AZN 300 to AZN 1000, public works up to 240 hours, corrective work up to a year or 6 months imprisonment are designated for insult. The draft law was recommended to the plenary meeting of the Azerbaijani Parliament.
