Georgian Dream updates constitutional lawsuit seeking ban on political parties

Georgia's ruling Georgian Dream party has updated its constitutional lawsuit seeking to ban several political parties operating in the country, Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili said, APA's local bureau reports.

According to him, the Gakharia for Georgia party has been added to the lawsuit.

"The lawsuit has been signed and will be submitted to the Constitutional Court today. The lawsuit will be made public, and everyone will be able to review it. I hope that the Constitutional Court and its judges are already working on the case. Although the period for reviewing the lawsuit is nine months, nothing prevents the court from considering the matter sooner," the Speaker added.

Recall that in October last year, Georgian Dream filed a lawsuit with the Constitutional Court seeking to declare the United National Movement party, founded by former President Mikheil Saakashvili, the Coalition for Change, Lelo – Strong Georgia, and the Federalists unconstitutional under the Georgian Constitution.
