Efforts to study the history of Caucasian Albania must be intensified, Chairman of the Board of the Center for Analysis of International Relations and Multiculturalism Farid Shafiyev said at an event titled "The Heritage of Caucasian Albania in Azerbaijan's History of Statehood," APA reports.
He stated that each of the various states that existed on the territory of Azerbaijan has left a certain legacy in the country's history of statehood and national identity.
"These issues must be thoroughly studied, and gaps in historical knowledge must not be allowed to emerge. As a historian, I would like to note that we must strengthen this area. It is important for Azerbaijan to have specialists who know the Georgian and Armenian languages, as well as Caucasian studies. Without such specialists, others gain an advantage in this field, and cases of historical falsification occur," Farid Shafiyev noted.
The chairman of the Center also touched upon issues related to the Christian heritage of Caucasian Albania.
He emphasized that Azerbaijan is home to historical places of worship belonging to various religious communities and that the country regards this heritage as its own historical and cultural wealth.
According to Farid Shafiyev, Azerbaijani historians must provide substantiated responses to attempts to Armenianize the history of Caucasian Albania.
