US President Donald Trump said Monday that Washington is working on a "massive" deal to purchase potash from Belarus at prices he claimed would be well below what the US currently pays Canada, Anadolu Agency reports.
"The pricing would be for substantially less than we are currently paying to Canada, very good news for our Farmers and Ranchers," Trump said in a post on his Truth Social platform.
The post did not provide details on the timing, volumes, or terms of the proposed deal, nor did it say whether Minsk had agreed to any arrangement.
Canada is the world's largest potash producer and the main supplier of the fertilizer ingredient to the US.
In 2024, Canada produced nearly 25 million tons of potash, 32.8% of world output, while Belarus ranked third with about 12.1 million tons, or 15.9%, according to Natural Resources Canada.
