China and the European Union, as strategic partners, should not start a trade war against each other, stated Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, APA reports.
"China and the EU are comprehensive strategic partners. China and Europe should not engage in a trade war," the Chinese Foreign Ministry website quotes Wang Yi as saying after a telephone conversation with his German counterpart, Johann Wadephul, on September 21.
The Chinese diplomat clarified that Beijing consistently advocates for rapprochement with Brussels in order to resolve mutual concerns through dialogue and consultation. "We hope that Germany will maintain a rational and pragmatic approach, play an active role in the European Union, and encourage the EU to adhere to the principles of free trade, abandon protectionism, and pursue the right path of open cooperation, dialogue, and consultation," Wang Yi emphasized.
