Food Safety Agency of The Republic of Azerbaijan (AQTA) has adopted "Sanitary norms and rules for energy drinks" in order to regulate the safety of energy drinks and thus prevent the possible adverse health effect of these drinks to the human body, the Agency told APA.
"Sanitary norms and rules on energy drinks" reflect minimum requirements for quality, safety, packaging, labeling, transportation and storage of these products as well as mandatory requirements for raw and other materials used in the production of those products.
According to requirements if at least two of the extracts of plants such as, guarana, root root, ground mate, ginseng, seaweed, chrysanthemum, Eleutherococcus, ginkgo biloba and caffeine, taurine, glucuronolactone, inositol, amino acids, B group vitamins are present in the drink this drink is considered as an energy beverage. If the only caffeine is used among these ingredients and its amount is more than 15 mg / 100 ml, these drinks are also considered as energy drinks.
According to the rules, these drinks should be produced in accordance with sanitary norms and regulations, the amount of toxic elements, radionuclides, mycotoxins, and pesticide residues should not exceed the limits established by applicable legal acts in the country, and the microbiological indicators of these beverages should comply with the norms established on the basis of valid legal acts in the country.
