Boarding-schools and special schools to be renamed in Azerbaijan

Baku. Ilhama Isabalayeva – APA. The Cabinet is expected to pass a decision on renaming boarding-schools and special schools in Azerbaijan. Ministry of Education told APA that the proposal on renaming special schools had been approved by the government.

The related bodies – Ministries of Finance, Economic Development, Labor and Social Protection of Population and Health have already approved the proposal. It is proposed to rename the schools for the blind, weak sighted children, mentally ill children as “Schools for children with special care needs”. After the special schools are renamed, they will be numbered.

The ministry said that the schools were renamed so that children could feel comfortable and feel themselves as personalities. In order to rename the special schools the Cabinet is to make amendments to the “Statute about special schools” ratified in 2002.


There are 12 boarding-schools and 5 special schools for the children with different disabilities in Azerbaijan.
