Today is Ashura in Azerbaijan, APA reports.

Ashura falls on June 25 this year.

The Council of Qazis of the Caucasus Muslims Office (CMO) reminded believers that during the 60-day mourning period of Muharram and Safar, particularly during Tasua and Ashura observances, practices such as inflicting injuries on oneself with various instruments, drawing blood, and striking the chest while bare-chested are unacceptable according to religious teachings.

The Council also instructed its local representatives that qazis and imams must conduct religious ceremonies in mosques, shrines, and their designated areas in accordance with the provisions of Azerbaijan’s Law on Freedom of Religious Belief.

Under Azerbaijani law, the use of slogans that undermine national and spiritual values and traditions of statehood, the use of attributes inconsistent with state symbols, street processions, and actions that disrupt public order during mourning ceremonies are not permitted.

As in previous years, blood donation campaigns will be held at blood bank branches in Baku and the regions, as well as at other healthcare facilities. The blood collected during the campaign will be used in the treatment of patients suffering from hemophilia, thalassemia, and other illnesses.

Note that the month of Muharram began on June 16.
