Chief of the State Committee on Work with Refugees and IDPs Ali Hasanov received Norwegian ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary to Azerbaijan Johan Ramberg and head of Norwegian Refugee Council office in Azerbaijan William Tall, the committee’s press secretary Senan Huseynov told the APA.
They debated on the issue on suspending the activity of Norwegian Refugees Council by the end of 2007. Ali Hasanov said that the office is of great importance for Azerbaijan. They reached an agreement on continuing the council’s activity by July, 2008. The issue will again be debated after the term expires.
Norwegian ambassador to Azerbaijan Johan Ramberg underlined that Norwegian Refugees Council is interested in operating in Azerbaijan until the refugees and IDPs return to their native lands.
Manager of Norwegian Refugees Council on affairs with office and government Yachin Adigozalov told the APA that the general secretariat of the council answered the appeal of Azerbaijani government. The letter of Norwegian Refugees Council secretary general to Chief of the State Committee on Work with Refugees and IDPs Ali Hasanov writes that the council’s office can not operate in Azerbaijan any more.
“Donor organizations allotting financial aid to Norwegian Refugees Council office in Azerbaijan do not want to spend money on these projects anymore. They say that Azerbaijan has broad financial resources. Therefore, the council’s office in Azerbaijan will operate by the end of 2007,” the letter says. /APA/
