Greece-Bulgaria Gas Interconnector project made it possible to expand the geography of Azerbaijan's gas supply to Europe, said President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev at the signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the encouraging cooperation among Bulgaria's Bulgartransgaz, Romania's Transgaz, Hungary's FGSZ, Slovakia's Eustream and the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) held today in Sofia, APA's correspondent assigned to Bulgaria reports.
The President stressed that the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding is a very important and timely step in terms of energy security.
"This initiative is an important step in the further diversification of energy resources and energy securities and it is also well timely step. 6 month ago I paid an official visit to Bulgaria. At the same time we participated at the ceremony of inauguration of Greece-Bulgaria Interconnector project in Bulgaria. This project made it possible to expand the geography of Azerbaijan's national gas supply in Europe, and at the same time, this project is already helping to strengthen Europe's energy security," the President said.
