Israeli law enforcement agencies are investigating whether the incident aboard a Flydubai plane flying from Dubai to Tel Aviv was an attempted terrorist attack, Ynet reports, citing sources.
One of the main scenarios being examined by law enforcement agencies is that one of the pilots deliberately attempted to crash the plane and that the incident may have been terror-motivated.
The suspected pilot is reportedly being questioned.
According to Israel’s Channel 12, following a joint assessment of the situation by the Israel Defense Forces, Shin Bet and Mossad, greater attention is being given to the possibility that the incident may have been a terrorist attack.
According to preliminary information, one of the pilots aboard the plane is an Omani citizen and the other is a citizen of the United Arab Emirates. An Israeli source claims that the Omani pilot attempted to crash the plane and stabbed the other pilot, who tried to stop him.
According to the source, an undercover security officer aboard the plane assisted in intervening in the cockpit, while other pilots on board helped land the aircraft safely.
At the same time, Israeli authorities are taking measures to return Israeli passengers in Saudi Arabia to the country. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz have reportedly issued instructions to this effect.
Israel and Saudi Arabia do not have diplomatic relations.
