New requirements for foreign media outlets in Azerbaijan are being introduced, APA reports.

This is reflected in proposed amendments to the Law “On Media,” which were discussed at today’s session of the Milli Majlis (Parliament).

According to the draft, after the branches and representative offices of foreign media entities are registered in the Republic of Azerbaijan, the relevant authority designated by the executive power must be notified about this within 3 (three) working days by the registering body.

Following their registration, foreign media entities’ branches and representative offices must apply to the relevant authority designated by the executive power within 7 (seven) working days for inclusion in the Media Registry.

If foreign media branches or representative offices operate in violation of these requirements or are removed from the Media Registry, the designated authority has grounds to initiate their closure. In such cases, access to the website or online information resources of that branch or office may be immediately restricted by the relevant authority.

It is also stated that journalists working in the branches and representative offices of foreign media outlets in Azerbaijan, as well as foreign journalists themselves, will not be included in the Media Registry.
