2545 violations of professional ethics recorded in Azerbaijani media last month

Azerbaijanâ€™s Press Council has publicized the results of the monitoring conducted in media within the framework of â€œObserving norms and laws of professional ethics in mediaâ€, APA reports. Chairman of the Press Council Aflatun Amashov told the press conference that 2545 violations of professional ethics were recorded in media last month. 2355 (92.6%) of these violations were recorded printed media and 190 (7.4%) on internet websites. Amashov said the monitoring was conducted in line with the law â€œOn mass mediaâ€ and â€œProfessional behavior of Azerbaijani journalistsâ€.

Chairman of the Press Council said most common violations were usage of materials without quoting the author (530 times), usage of materials without quoting the author showing his own signature (444 times), violation of balance (384 times), journalistâ€™s biased approach (269 times), propaganda in favor of and against journalist (220 times), damaging business image (68 times), slander (68 times), distortion of facts (41 times), distortion of conditions of the event (35 times), criticism based on unreal facts (35 times), improper attitude because of political discrimination and political affiliation (31 times), printing of photo, name and other details allowing to identify victims of violence and crime (13 times).

Shortcomings in Tezadlar, Ses, Iki sahil, Movge, Hefte ichi, 1 News, Yeni Musavat, Muasir Musavat and Bizim yol became more frequent.

Aflatun Amashov said the principle of inviolability of honor, dignity and private life was violated in newspapers and websites 184 times last month.
