Azerbaijan Press Council addresses relevant organizations on the “racket” newspapers

On December 26, 2008 the Council’s Board of Governors passed decision on declaring 36 newspapers a “racket” publication of the year according to the notifications of the Council’s Secretary and relevant commissions.
The decision was made on the basis of the facts that some journalists ignore the Journalist Professional Behavior Rules, admit actions against ethic principles and professional morality and don’t take a reason from the decisions, opinions, remarks and recommendations to them. The Press Council urged media organizations it sent the letters to take these facts into account.
The Press Council declared following newspapers a “racket” publication of 2008: “Boyuk Nakhchivan”, “Daryaz”, “Gundem”, “Adalet Ugrunda”, “Media Azerbaijan”, “Yeni Dovr”, “Azerbaijan Genjliyi”, “Journalist ve Qanun”, “Veten Andi”, “Aile”, “Ideal Azerbaijan”, “Vetendash Hugugu”, “Ideal”, “Khususi Tehgigat”, “Taran”, “Aydin Azerbaijan”, “Nakhchivan Press”, “Azad Press”, “Avrotayms”, Kadr ve Tereggi”, “Achig Fikir”, “Radikal”, “Azadlig ve Zaman”, “Kriminal Alem”, “Fakt”, “Fakt+fakt”, “Mustegil Dovlet”, “Muasir Nakhchivan”, “Nurlu Seher”, “Azerbaijan Yolu”, “Dunyaya Garabag Harayi”, “Hefte Sonu”, “Khalq Vekili”, “Regiounun Sesi”, “Yeni Azerbaijan Dunyasi”.

Law-enforcement organizations were recommended to investigate reports about some of these newspapers, including “Nakhchivan Press”, “Ideal”, “Kriminal Alem”, “Radikal”, “Avrotayms”, “Taran”, “Khususi Tehgigat” and “Medai Azerbaijan”.

The Council said it was not a full list of the “racket” newspapers and it would continue the investigation.
