Press Council discusses appeal of two lawmakers and former presidential candidate on Khural newspaper

Bakuâ€“APA. The Press Council Governing Board held its regular meeting on Friday. The Board discussed establishing of Mass Media Support Fund by the presidential order from July 31, 2008, PC sources told APA.
Chairman of the Council Aflatun Amashov said charter and other assistant documents of the fund, which would have important function in the economic development of the printed media, were almost completed. The documents are elaborated in the Presidentâ€™s Office and Azerbaijan Press Council as well.
Appeal of Gaya Press Circulation about re-opening of its bookstalls was also discussed at the meeting. Members of the Council emphasized that the issue should be approached comprehensively. It was noted that Azermetbuatyayimi and Gasid firms also faced with this problem. The councilâ€™s standing commission on the problems between the media and government organizations was instructed to investigate the issue and to work with the Baku City Executive Power. Discussing the appeal of the NGO Alliance for Childrenâ€™s Rights, the Management Board considered it expedient to give recommendations to mass media in covering the cases related to the teenagersâ€™ committing crimes, or undergoing violence.
The appeals of the parliamentarians, chairman of the United Azerbaijan Popular Front Party Gudrat Hasanguliyev and chairman of Great Establishment Party Fazil Gazanfaroglu in connection with Khural newspaper. They parliamentarians said that expressions insulting their honor and dignity were used in the articles published in the newspaper on October 19-25. Commenting on the remarks, the representative of the newspaper also said that it was inadmissible to use expressions contradicting ethic principles in the newspapers. He said Khural newspaper was ready to execute the decision of the Press Council.
Press Council condemned the fact, recommended the newspaper to apologize and publish refutation.
