Azerbaijan Press Council appeals to President on pardoning of imprisoned journalists

Baku-APA. Azerbaijan Press Council appealed to President Ilham Aliyev to pardon imprisoned journalists, APA reports.
The appeal says that five-year measures, reforms taken for the development of civil society also cover mass media and journalists.
â€œOrders and decrees issued by the President took all issues on media, as well as amnesty on imprisoned journalists into consideration. Pardoning decrees have taken appeals of Press Council to the President into consideration every time. As a result of it, our imprisoned colleagues have been released and returned to their homes and familiesâ€, said in the appeal of the Press Council.
The appeal adds that such kind of humanist actions will be taken henceforth. Resolution of 5th Congress of Azerbaijani Journalists envisages an appeal to the President on release of imprisoned journalists.
â€œThey are editor-in-chief of Azadlig newspaper Ganimat Zahidov, official of the newspaper Sakit Zahidov (Mirza Sakit), editor-in-chief of Daily Azerbaijan and Realniy Azerbaijan newspapers Eynulla Fatullayev, editor-in-chief of Bizim yol newspaper Mushvig Husseinov. They have taken half of their punishment and they are living under hard conditionsâ€, said in the appeal.
The Press Council asked the President for help on the release of journalists, taking their families, children and parents into consideration.
