Baku. Ramil Mammadli – APA. An event was held on the end of the third course of the training program of the US-based International Center for Journalists (ICFJ), APA reports. Charles Rice, ICFJ’s Country Director in Baku said Azerbaijani journalists need to carry out professional investigation and ICFJ implemented the project to help them in this field. Charles Rice said six journalists attended four intensive courses and spoke about the peculiarities of the program. Head instructor of the project Shahin Abbasov spoke about the activity of the attendees.
Public Affairs Officer of the U.S. Embassy in Azerbaijan Terry Davidson said professional journalism was considered one of the main principles of the democracy. He said the United States wanted to help the development of democracy in Azerbaijan by supporting the development of professional journalism.
“We are sure that democracy has powerful future in Azerbaijan. We also know that Azerbaijani journalists will play important role in this process,” he said.
Head of Radio Liberty’s Azerbaijani service Khadija Ismayilova and others underlined the necessity of improving investigative journalism in Azerbaijan. Certificates were presented to the attendees at the end of the event.
