IREX representative: â€œRealization of the pre-election promises is not always within the authority of US presidentâ€

Baku. Lachin Sultanova â€“APA. Representative of IREX media support organization in Azerbaijan Shelly Markoff visited the Womenâ€™s Media Watch Azerbaijan Women Journalists Union. The union told APA speaking about the possible effect of the US presidential election on Azerbaijan, the IREX official said realization of the pre-election promises was not always within the authority of US president. â€œMr. Obama promised in California to recognize Armenian genocide, but this issue is within the authority of the Congress, but not the president. The Congress is not always accepting the governmentâ€™s proposalâ€.
Markoff said IREX aimed to give information about the work of different systems with the broadcasting of US presidential elections for the first time in Azerbaijan. The IREX official touched upon the differences between the debates in USA and Azerbaijan. â€œThere is no similarity between the developments in the United States and Azerbaijan. The debates are held between the two parties and one of them has less experience than other one in the United States. I donâ€™t believe that President Aliyev can lose the elections in Azerbaijan. He will be the president. The candidates have to think about their promises. The government will win with thatâ€.
Speaking about the situation of the press in Azerbaijan Markoff said the main problem was in the editors-in-chief. â€œIn my opinion the journalists well know the principles of journalism, including balancing, objectiveness and etc., but the editors-in-chief donâ€™t allow them depending on the political situationâ€.
