Baku to host meeting of Organization of Asia-Pacific News Agencies Executive Board

Baku – APA. AzerTAj State Agency will host the 30th meeting of the Organization of Asia-Pacific News Agencies (OANA) Executive Board on the theme “Information for all in globalizing world†on September 2 in Baku, APA reports. Director General of AzerTAj Aslan Aslanov said that President of OANA, Executive Director of Antara agency of Indonesia Ahmad Mukhlis Yusuf, heads of national information agencies and senior representatives of 21 countries, president of European Alliance of News Agencies (EANA), Director General of Austria’s APA agency Wolfgang Vyslozil would attend the meeting.
Aslan Aslanov said AzerTAj became member of OANA in September, 2004. Azerbaijan is the forth country in CIS whose news agency is represented in the organization.
“Since then news articles of AzerTAj are posted on the special website of OANA, 38 information agencies of other 32 member states use these news articles. On December 12, 2007, at the 13 General Assembly of OANA in Jakarta AzerTAj was elected member of the organization’s Executive Board. Decision to hold the present meeting of the Executive Board was made then,†he said.
The Director General said AzerTAC joined EANA on April 18, 2008 and it was the third news agency in post-soviet space joined the organization after ITAR-TASS and Ukrinform. AzerTAC is a member and one of the founders of other regional news organizations like Union of Turkic-speaking News Agencies (TKA), Association of National News Agencies of CIS countries (ANIA), Association of National News Agencies of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation Organization member countries (BSANNA).
Aslanov said OANA Executive Committee’s Baku meeting was dedicated to very important topic and emphasized that it was necessary to provide everybody with information obtaining opportunity in the period of globalization and integration processes. “Objective and impartial information is necessary for us while the mankind is facing with such threats like confrontation, terrorism, separatism, religious extremism and transnational crime. Such opportunity of information obtaining helps the peoples to evaluate developments not only in own countries, but all over the world correctly. It makes peoples and countries closer. I think such international events are important in terms of professional opinion exchanging. I hope the meeting of OANA Executive Committee will contribute to widening of relations between the news agencies of different countries covering very large geographyâ€.
