According to the amendment, a mandate of the Council’s Governing Board was prolonged from 2 to 4 years, sources at the Press Council told APA. Restrictions on election of the Council’s central bodies, which didn’t allow one person to be elected for more than two terms, were also lifted.
Amendments to the Press Council’s Charter were discussed for the first time at the IV congress of Azerbaijani journalists on December 23, 2006 and this issue was included in the resolution adopted at that congress. The Council’s Governing Board was urged to prepare proposals on this issue until the next congress and these proposals were adopted at the V congress of Azerbaijani journalists on June 20, 2008.
