She said that along with all positive steps there are problems in the sphere of freedom of speech and media in Azerbaijan and it worries Freedom House and other relevant international organizations. Paula Schiffer also expressed her regret at journalists’ arrest.
“We believe that we can help journalists. We are pessimistic about our activity in Azerbaijan. Unlike other Post-Soviet countries, we believe that our activity in Azerbaijan will not be ineffective,†representative of the Committee to Protect Journalists Europe and Central Asia Program Coordinator Nina Ognianova said.
Nina Ognianova said that they always keep the state of media in Azerbaijan in the focus of attention and added that they are following the court hearings of journalists.
