Azeri media representatives end visit to the US

Following this, chiefs of media outlets met with president of Azerbaijan Society of America (ASA) Tomris Azeri and Azerbaijani consul general to Los Angeles Elin Suleymanov. They debated on Diaspora activities in the US.
Media representatives visiting New York Timesâ€™ editorial office familiarized themselves with the editionâ€™s principles. Jim Roberts, editor of digital news told the delegation that there are 1100 journalists in the newspaper, circulation of the newspaper on working days is one million copies and 1.600 000 copies on weekends.
Mr. Roberts said that 2 million people visit the newspaperâ€™s website everyday. He noted that 70 journalists work on the website.
Azeri delegation later met with Sreenath Sreenivasan, Dean of The Graduate School of Journalism at Columbia University. The dean said that journalists attend 10-month courses for masterâ€™s degree at the university, which cost $39,000. The dean noted that their faculty have 400 students, 50 of them are foreigners. Sreenath Sreenivasan said they organize on-line media courses, along with tradition journalism.
State of Azerbaijani media and imprisoned journalists were debated at the meeting in the Committee to Protect Journalists in New York. They also discussed laws on advertising and defamation. Europe and Central Asia Program Coordinator Nina Ognianova said she will visit Azerbaijan by the year-end and familiarize herself with the situation.

The delegation includes editor-in-chief of Ayna-Zerkalo newspaper Elchin Shikhli, editor-in-chief of Yeni Musavat newspaper Rauf Arkifoglu, director general of APA information agency Vusala Mahirgizi, editor-in-chief of Day.az internet portal Elnur Baimov, editor-in-chief of Hafta ichi newspaper Sevinj Seyidova, editor-in-chief of Yeni Azerbaijan newspaper Algish Hasanoglu and editor-in-chief of Yeni Zaman newspaper Shakir Habiloglu. /APA/
