Azeri media representatives visit Houston

They discussed the state of Azerbaijani Diaspora in the US at the meeting with the president of Houston-Baku Sister Cities Association Irada Akhoundova. The President said that they are working on the project on erecting Nizami Ganjavi’s bust in Houston, association celebrates all national holidays and establish relations with other communities. She said Heydar Aliyev Foundation, State Committee for Azerbaijanis Abroad and Houston mayor’s office support them. Noting that 100-150 Azeri families are living in Houston, the president said people from South Azerbaijan, Jews from Baku and others are also represented in the community. Ms. Akhoundova also noted that they have close relations with Turkish Diaspora.
Following this, the delegation visited Houston Chronicle newspaper. They were told that daily circulation of the newspaper is 550,000 copies and 700,000 -1 million at the weekend. This is the eighth newspaper in the US for its circulation. The paper is loyal to centralized and liberal values. The newspaper supporting President George Bush in latest elections has not yet determined its candidate.
Later Azeri delegation visited Pakistan Chronicle published in English and Urdu languages. It is a weekly newspaper and distributed freely in mosque, restaurant and among community members and is for the people from South Asia and Muslims in America. The paper covers political, social news and religion. The circulation of the English version of the paper is 24,000 copies and Urdu version 40,000 copies.
Azeri media representatives continue their visit to the US. The delegation will tomorrow visit Police Academy in Houston and The Houston press newspaper.
The delegation includes editor-in-chief of Ayna-Zerkalo newspaper Elchin Shikhli, editor-in-chief of Yeni Musavat newspaper Rauf Arkifoglu, director general of APA information agency Vusala Mahirgizi, editor-in-chief of Day.az internet portal Elnur Baimov, editor-in-chief of Hafta ichi newspaper Sevinj Seyidova, editor-in-chief of Yeni Azerbaijan newspaper Algish Hasanoglu and editor-in-chief of Yeni Zaman newspaper Shakir Habiloglu. /APA/
