Media Rights Institute publicized report on the legal condition of media in the first half of 2007, APA reports.
Chief of the Institute Rashad Hajili held a press conference. He said that Azerbaijani media had hard times in the first half of this year. Legal and illegal means were against freedom of speech. Rashad Hajili said that both print media and electron media had hard times and seven journalists are in prison now.
The report covers closure of Turkish TV channel Kanal D and reports about closure of STV Russian TV channels.
“No new TV channel was opened in the country during this period. The media’s advertising market was weak enough. This depleted media,” the report says.
The report also says that several newspapers were suspended, internet resources are not widely spread and there are new users.
The experts attending the event expressed their opinion on the report. /APA/
