Azerbaijani media representatives have meeting in the US

Several Azerbaijani media representatives visiting the US held meeting in Meridian International Center yesterday, APA reports.
Ms.Naomi Feigenbaum participated in the meeting. He said that Azerbaijan is an interesting country for them and they want to get acquainted with the condition of media and media problems here.
Ms.Feigenbaum said that the visit also aimed to exchange experience. Then Azerbaijani delegation met with the director of Committee of Concerned Journalists Mr. Walter Dean. General information was given about the US media condition at the meeting. It was stated that the condition of print-media is bad in the US like in the whole world. Speedy development of the Internet reduces print-media circulation.
The rapporteur underlined that the famous US newspapers the Washington-Post, Washington Times and the New-York Times faced this problem. He stated that they reduced the workers of the newspapers, circulation, content of news stories, environments for removing financial problems.
“The reductions harmed activity and quality of newspapers. Unwillingness is also felt in newspapers. They are only trying to give news covering local area, they are not yearned for perfect researches. Media in the US is in critical condition at present,” he said.
Mr.Dean stated that the circulation of the newspapers in the US reduced by 50% within past 50 years. The profit also reduced by 8.5% from 2006.
He also stated that the increase of the Internet and electron media seriously influenced on the advertising market.
The rapporteur also stressed that the advertising price of web-pages in the US is cheap. Print-media is still popular in advertising field.
Mr.Dean also stressed that the income of the newspapers comprises 15-20% of their expenses. Great corporations or businessmen are paying other expenses. The specialist saying that they are working on new projects at present said that they are thinking over new models. He said that this problem will be removed within next 5 years.
Azerbaijani delegation is also expected to meet with the director of American Press Institute, Mr.Endrew Davis, director for special programs, Mr. Steve Battrey and co-director, Ms. Merry Glick. Media representatives will also visit Politics Institute, get acquainted with the working principle of Washington.com website and its officials, get interested in controlling the site and management. /APA/
