Azerbaijan Press Council to address tax bodies on â€œracketâ€ newspapers

The issue is discussed in the council currently, PC Executive Secretary Rahim Huseynzadeh told APA. He said PC sent letters to the distributors and publishers about the â€œracketâ€ newspapers. â€œThe reference letters describe the anti-professional actions of those publications and the concern it caused among the society and warned the distributors and publishers the non-prospective cooperation with them. We received enough information confirming their understanding of our recommendationsâ€.

The executive secretary said the tax bodies would also address the issue because prevention of â€œracket journalismâ€ is important not only for the Press Council, but entire society as well. Mostly the â€œracketâ€ newspapersâ€ donâ€™t observe the labor and tax regulations. They are following only certain corporative goals, which lead to the violation of professional principles, ethics and spiritual values. Therefore it needs to review this issue comprehensively. The use of authorities and mechanisms of tax bodies for prevention of â€œracketâ€ newspapersâ€ will be useful for the causeâ€.
