APA’s statement on General Prosecutor’s Office press release

APA’s statement on General Prosecutor’s Office press release
# 12 June 2009 17:15 (UTC +04:00)
The news appeared when the official statement issued by General Prosecutor’s Office and Interior Ministry concerning the grave crime committed in 2003-2004 was verified.

A day after the news article was posted, press service of General Prosecutor’s Office sent a letter of refutation to the agency. Actually aiming to damage the image of the agency, without waiting for APA to post the text of refutation the Prosecutor’s Office released the copies of the letter, it created conditions for our rivals to use the news against us.

The agency approached the case from the principle of professionalism and did not make an additional statement.

APA states that the agency received the information some days ago, spokesman for General Prosecutor’s Office Eldar Sultanov unofficially confirmed the report and advised to wait some days. When the news article was posted the spokesman contacted the agency and made some amendments to the article, he did not demand any refutation. On June 9 he issued statement on refutation.

On June 11, 2009, APA reported that the investigator of the criminal case on questioning several officials in Ganja City due to the grave crime committed in 2003-2004 was replaced. At that time our reporters were not able to contact with Eldar Sultanov, the head of press service of the General Prosecutor’s Office. Investigator Vugar Nasibov did not exclude his working on the case, but rejected to provide detailed information about the investigative procedure.

However, investigator Nadir Mirzayev appeared in another mass media and tried to refute the agency’s information in order to damage the APA’s image. We also know that Nadir Mirzayev is impossible to appear in any mass media on his initiative.

APA expresses regret for all this and says it cannot be fitted any principles of cooperation and APA does not understand such approach of the General Prosecutor’s Office towards the agency. It would be interesting for us to know the reason of creating disloyalty to our news by all means at the time when the agency’s international reputation is increasing at an accelerated pace.

And again APA feels regret for all this and expresses its will and intention to continue cooperation with the General Prosecutor’s Office, restating that the agency does not intend to give up the principal position in covering the developments.
